A large old wooden farmhouse in the centre of Megève village is the setting for le Vieux Megève, a traditional Savoyard restaurant that I recommend with pleasure. Inside you will find rustic mountain décor, generous family-style cooking and a friendly atmosphere.
I suggest the cheese fondue, the knife-cut raclette and the péla des Aravis, a traditional mountain dish. For pudding there are gâteau de Savoie, blueberry tart and a génépi crème brûlée. This family-run local institution has been in the village for decades and is linked to the year 1964. It belongs to the Sibuet family's Maisons & Hôtels Sibuet group, and its own website describes it as ranked second-best fondue in Megève in 2025.
In winter it is open daily for lunch and dinner. Summer service starts on 4 July, with some closed days, and there is a sunny terrace. I strongly advise booking ahead, especially in winter and during the school holidays, online or by phone. A children's menu and vegetarian options are available; please mention them when you book. Access is step-free, and if you have specific needs, do contact the restaurant beforehand.
You will find it at 58 place de la Résistance, a short walk from the church, the ice rink and the Casino car park, with public parking close by. Local shuttles, taxis and buses run from Sallanches and Saint-Gervais-les-Bains stations. The whole restaurant can be privatised for birthdays, weddings or seminars, with seating for 90 indoors plus 24 on the summer terrace, and the chef can create a tailor-made Savoyard menu for private groups. A good choice for guests on a family holiday in the Alps.
