't Werftje is a bar and fish restaurant in Zeebrugge, and I recommend it to guests staying around Knokke-Le Zoute who would like to eat seafood from the North Sea. The dishes are made with seafood from those waters. You can come for lunch, for dinner or simply for a drink at the bar.
The house describes itself as the oldest café on the Zeebrugge coast. The original building on Werfkaai 29 dates from 1905. In March 2025 't Werftje moved to a new location at Omookaai 8, right on the water. The new building is shared with the Royal Belgian Sailing Club, whose clubhouse is now part of the venue. It aims for a warm, homely and inviting atmosphere.
The place is famous for its shrimp croquettes, which Luc Bellings rated 10/10 as the best on the coast in 2015. 't Werftje has also received several awards and has been mentioned in the national press. Please note that no reservations are taken. You may have a drink at the bar while you wait for a table, although the wait can be long. The kitchen closes at 21:30, and in July and August at 22:00.
Menus are available in Dutch, French and English, and there is a separate wine list. Bancontact and credit cards are accepted. Take-away is available through a webshop every day except Tuesday and Wednesday, with pick-up between 11:00 and 19:00. Private events can be planned on request.
My tip: Reservations are not taken, so have a drink at the bar while you wait for a table, as the wait can be long.
